He made his major league debut with the Mets on Jat the age of 23. Singleton was drafted out of Hofstra University by the New York Mets as the third overall pick in the 1st round of the 1967 Major League Baseball draft. He also played baseball in the Bronx Federation League at Macombs Dam Park, across the street from Yankee Stadium. He went on to a long career as a broadcaster, most prominently for the New York Yankees from 1997 to 2021.īorn in Manhattan, New York City, and raised in nearby Mount Vernon, Singleton played both baseball and basketball in high school.
